Open and Affirming (ONA)

Community Protestant has a history of being welcoming to those who’ve been excluded from other congregations or merely ‘tolerated.’ We made our commitment to continue doing so explicit through the adoption of the following congregational covenant, which appears in every week’s worship bulletin:

Jesus Christ invites all people to know God’s love and trust in the grace he offers, reconciling us to God and each other.

We expect and welcome people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, family configurations, economic circumstances, educational levels, physical and mental abilities, and national origins to join us in the life, leadership, mission, and ministry of this congregation.

With the adoption of the covenant, CPC joined the UCC Coalition of Open and Affirming churches, a growing group of congregations that work together to promote a message of welcome and acceptance and to help all of us continue to grow in our understanding of Christ’s unconditional welcome, often to those who are on the margins of our society.

So, maybe you’ve had a bad experience with a church before because of who you are or who you love. Maybe you never even visited a church because you expected to be met with silence or side-eye. We hope you’ll give us a chance to show you God’s love by visiting us for worship or any of our public fellowship events. Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, YOU are welcome here.
