Fall Adult Retreat 2018: Now What?
In keeping with CPC’s focus on being a ‘Learning Community’ committed to life-long Christian growth, we cordially invite all of our adult members and friends to join us for an engaging and enlightening retreat: “Now What? Understanding the Struggle to Be the Church in the 1st and 21st Centuries”
Our guest presenter will be the Rev. Dr. Deborah Krause, Professor of New Testament at Eden Theological Seminary in Saint Louis, MO. In her typical approachable and conversational style, Professor Krause will help participants understand the three major phases of the early Church and how it shaped the writings we’ve come to know collectively as the New Testament. More importantly, we’ll see that this isn’t just a musty, dusty history lesson as we take what we’ve learned about the 1st Century Church and use it to discern faithful ways to respond to the profound challenges facing God’s creation in the 21st Century.
Of course, this is a retreat so don’t expect it to be all work! There will be plenty of downtime and the freedom to choose how to spend it. Voluntary group games, both indoor and outdoor, are planned and all meals on Saturday and Sunday morning (and snacks in between) are provided. The retreat will close with worship late Sunday morning. Also, autumn foliage is expected to be at or near peak color!
The venue for the retreat is the Stronghold Center on the Rock River in Oregon, Illinois – about a two hour drive from Mundelein. Carpools are encouraged. Please indicate whether you would like to drive others (including how many passengers you can comfortably accommodate) or if you need a ride and we will help make those arrangements.

IMPORTANT: The deadline for registration is Friday, August 31st. Because a final count is necessary at that time, no late registrations can be accepted. Payment can be included with your regular offering or mailed to the church office. Please indicate “Fall Retreat” on your check or offering envelope. We want everyone who is able to participate. Full or partial financial assistance is available for those in need by speaking confidentially with Pastor Alex.
